Road to the White House

Aug_-28_-2008_1106832i

Today is a school holiday. Many of the campuses in our school district are used for voting. Yesterday the school held a mock election. All the students and teachers voted. At the end of the day, the winner was announced: Barack Obama.

I was sad to hear that Obama’s grandmother passed away on Sunday, just two days before the election. Two days! After all this time, it’s kind of bittersweet. She was able to vote for her grandson by mailing in a ballot. But, still.

It’s odd being off on a Tuesday. I voted last week. It's nice not having to wait in line or worry about whether or not my precinct would be packed.

We got some medical appointments out of the way today and just got back from the grocery store. It’s nice to be home in a clean house with the laundry done and a full pantry.

I’m looking forward to watching the election coverage tonight – history in the making.

I can’t remember a time when so many Americans were actually interested in a presidential election and are out there voting.

2008 International Quilt Festival

Sew1

Rachel and I went to the quilt show today at the GRB Convention Center. The show was pretty much the same as last year’s except we drove instead of taking the bus. Of course the quilts were all different with much of the same booths as before. Rachel always looks forward to sitting down to sew her own quilt square, and she loved browsing the bead vendors. We were there about 5 hours before heading home to relax.

We had to stop for gas on the way in. Boy was I ever happy. Gas is down to $1.89 today!
