Time for an Update
I haven’t had time to really sit down and write anything. There is no good reason at all other than I seem to always be on the run and have things to do. When I do have some free time, I’ve not felt like writing. I joined Facebook back in December. It’s more of a casual way of keeping tabs on people, but I do like reading updates on my friends and family. If you’re a FB user and want to connect, let me know.
Since the last time I’ve written, yes, the Steelers did win the Super Bowl. Of course, I’m still reveling in the aftermath, but I’m not one to rub it in or act like an ass about it. The only thing worse than a sore loser, is a Sore Winner. I can’t stand that! If you happen to like the Steelers, then you know how much this 6th win meant to the Steelers, the city of Pittsburgh, and the fans.
Jerry: Another important milestone that we celebrated this month was Jerry’s 50th birthday. The only special request he had was his mom’s red velvet cake, which I finally made from scratch. I guess it was good because it disappeared in three days with only crumbs in the cake pan remaining. I don’t write much about Jerry because he and I have very different views on blogging, the internet, emailing, etc. We are both “old school,” in terms of values and accepting change in general, but I am more open. Jerry is very private and I know it bothers him to some extent that I even keep a blog, and he does not like Facebook either. We talked about it the other night and his comment was that it’s so impersonal. Although I told him that it is a social network – the key word being social – he doesn’t see it that way. He often jokes about the types of updates he would post, “sitting down to watch Lost,” “changing from ESPN to CNN,” “moved from the sofa to the recliner,” etc. Well, you get the idea. He prefers in person, face-to-face interaction. Second to that is the phone. I see it differently and really enjoy blogging and socializing the way I see fit. Out of respect for Jerry, I don’t say all that much about him, so I wanted to clear that up because I keep being asked if something is wrong with our marriage. Fear not! We are polar opposites in some ways, but otherwise very happily married coming up on 11 years. Jerry started working for a brand new company last November. It’s grown a lot in a few short months, and they are already moving into San Antonio.
Rachel had oral surgery a few weeks ago – one of the “phases” of her braces. She had seven teeth surgically removed (4 permanent and 3 babies). We were unprepared for the amount of blood and gore. Well, strike that. Let’s just say I am not good with blood and was really happy when Jerry got home that afternoon. The surgeon handed me a clear plastic bag with saline, the teeth and roots. It was so disgusting and made me throw up in my mouth just a little. The Tooth Fairy did come to the rescue, and Rachel is $20 richer. When the Houston Rodeo tickets went on sale in Ticketmaster Hell, I was poised over the keyboard waiting to buy tickets. For some reason, I was lucky and we were able to get 4 Jonas Brothers tickets and 2 Taylor Swift tickets for the rodeo, so she is looking forward to both of those concerts.
The kids lost both of their DS chargers, which meant the kids weren’t able to play with their dead DS players. After cleaning Mitchell’s room for the third time, I found one of the chargers last weekend, and now they are back in business. The kids love to text each other with their DS games, and Mitchell is just so happy to be back in Pokemon Diamond world. He is spending a lot of time shooting hoops in the driveway. He plays PIG and HORSE with his dad every night, and none of the neighborhood kids can beat him, even the 4th graders. Mitchell came home from school a few weeks ago with ringworm* on his face. After nearly two weeks of treatment, it’s almost gone. He had his school picture taken today, so I hope it doesn’t show. *Ringworm: See, right there. That is a perfect example. Jerry would be horrified if anyone knew Mitchell had ringworm. It's a part of our life, and I just choose to deal with life. Does anyone else have a spouse with different views on blogging and privacy?
There’s really not much new about me to report. I’m trying to think of what’s happened since I last updated. Oh, I got a new haircut. I’ll try to post some pictures of that for those who haven’t seen me on Facebook. It’s shorter and so much easier to take care of.
After reading what I wrote I realize that this post is more like one of those annual Christmas newsletters that people send out. I really love getting those newsletters, although I’ve never made time to send one of my own.

Thanks for finally updating! I sent you a PM thru FB. I like being able to know who exactly is reading my FB and being able to "see" their photos. You're right about it being more general over there. Have you ever thought about passwording your blog?

Thanks for inviting me to FB. It's all new to me. Now that I'm back from va-cay, I have to learn FB. It's funny that you mention ringworm. Both of my grandkids had ringworm this year, one on his hand and the other on his arm. It's part of being a kid. Even funnier is that you and I are the same age and your son is the same age as my grandson. Ha!

Not sure what happened. I thought I posted, but it didn't show up. I wanted to say thanks for inviting me to FB. I just got back from va-cay and have to learn how it works. Both of my grandsons had ringworm this year, one on his hand and the other on his arm. It's just part of being a kid. These things get passed around. I find it funny that your son and my grandson are the same age, and you and I are the same age, too! Ha!
